broadbig2.JPG (14583 bytes) Although Rainham Broadway was merely a dusty, open space in 1895 it was already the focal point of Rainham.
broadbig.JPG (16324 bytes) Possibly taken around the same time, the 18th Century Redberry can be seen as can the original Angel Inn - the white building on the right (demolished and rebuilt in 1905). On the far right a haycart can be seen moving across the Broadway.
broadbig3.JPG (17715 bytes) 1924 and the War Memorial has been standing for three years. One can now catch a hard-tyred 23A bus to destinations such as Barking, Aldgate, Holborn, Oxford Street, Baker Street and Marylebone. I wonder how much a season ticket was in those days ?
broadbig4.JPG (19912 bytes) 1957 and Rainham in the post-war years is thriving along with the rest of Britain.
